Below is some helpful information for shoppers to know about shopping at Meijer.
Do shoppers need to ask for tax exemption?
Yes. Once shoppers get to check out, tap Check Out in the app, they should let the cashier know the order is tax-exempt and present the barcode to be scanned.
Can shoppers use self-checkout?
Yes, shoppers are able to use self-checkout at Meijer.
Can shoppers sort Meijer orders by aisle location?

What items are prohibited?
Alcohol*, tobacco, prescription/behind the counter medication, live animals (including fish and insects), lottery tickets, fireworks, guns, ammunition, and gift cards are prohibited from being purchased and delivered from Meijer.
*Note: In Bradley and Springfield, Illinois and Michigan, certified shoppers are able to deliver wine, beer, and liquor from Meijer. In Ohio, certified shoppers are able to deliver wine and beer from Meijer.
If any of these items are on an order, shoppers can kindly let the member know that those items are not eligible for delivery with Shipt. If the member requests more information, shoppers may politely recommend that they reach out to Shipt Support for further details.
State Restrictions:
Michigan: alcohol products cannot be delivered to college campuses.
Michigan and Ohio: Alcohol is sold throughout Michigan and Ohio at certain times, including 7–2 a.m. Monday through Sunday.
*Note: Select Meijer stores do not allow alcohol sales before 12 p.m. on Sundays. If a member places an order with alcohol during prohibited times, consider politely letting them know the item is unavailable at that time.
What should shoppers do if a member adds alcohol as a special request or wants to add alcohol to their order once I’ve started shopping?
Shoppers are not able to honor a request for alcohol on a “dry” order (an order that does not already include alcohol). If a member wants to add alcohol after they have placed a dry order, shoppers may politely let them know they will have to place a new order for that item to be delivered.

Can shoppers substitute alcohol if the requested item is out of stock?
If a member has a general preference of Contact Member, Meijer requests that shoppers get the approval of the member before substituting any out-of-stock alcohol items. If a member is unresponsive to a substitution message, shoppers can try calling the member instead. If the member is still unresponsive and therefore has not approved the alcohol substitution, shoppers should not substitute the item and mark it as Not Found.
Can members order general merchandise items like clothing or TVs?
Most general merchandise items are not in the Shipt catalog, but members can request those items via special requests.

Should shoppers use a rewards card or coupons at checkout?
No, shoppers should not use a mPerks card at checkout. If the member has a mPerks card, they can connect it to their Shipt account through the member app.
Catalina Coupons
Shoppers should not use Catalina coupons at checkout under any circumstance. However, any Catalina coupons that print with the receipt during checkout should be provided to the member upon delivery.
Will shoppers need to bag items at checkout?
Shoppers will only need to bag items if a store attendant is unable to assist.
What do I do if the receipt won't scan into the app?
After checking out, you'll be prompted to scan the barcode on the physical receipt. If the app’s scanner has trouble capturing the receipt barcode, you can manually input the receipt number underneath the barcode. Should you need to manually enter the receipt number for a Meijer order, you’ll need to enter the ¥ symbol.
The layout of your mobile keyboard may vary depending on the device and operating system, but there are similar ways to find this symbol. If you navigate to your numbers keyboard, you can long-hold the $ key and drag your finger up to the ¥. Many keyboards also have a symbols keyboard where the ¥ symbol can be found.
If you are unable to locate the ¥ symbol when manually entering the receipt number, you can replace any ¥ with 0 (zero) and continue processing the order like normal.

Gift Receipts
Through the holidays, Meijer receipts will automatically include a perforated gift receipt at the end of the order’s receipt when there is general merchandise included in the order.
If your order receipt has a gift receipt attached, separate the gift receipt and give it to the member—do not give the member the actual store receipt.
Can items be returned to Meijer?
Items can be returned to the service desk at the Meijer store location where they were originally purchased between the hours of 8 a.m.–10 p.m. It is always a best practice to return items on the same day they were purchased.
*Note: Meijer has the right to accept or refuse returns for any items.
Alcohol Returns
Alcohol returns can be made to the Meijer store where you purchased the order. Notify the Service Desk team member that you have a Shipt alcohol return. The cost of the alcohol will be refunded back to your Shipt card.
To complete a return for a Meijer order:
- Let the Service Desk team member know you have a Shipt order that could not be delivered
- Present the original receipt and your Shipt card at Customer Service.
- Write the order number on the receipt and take a picture of it after the store attendant has completed the return
- Email the picture to shoppers@shipt.com
